Canadian singer/songwriter and breakout pop star Carly Rae Jepsen has been added to the Algoma Fall Festival’s 2013 season. After storming the pop charts with her hit “Call Me Maybe” Jepsen has enjoyed a whirlwind year.

“Adding this talented young singer to our season will make this fall that much more exciting,” said President Donna Hilsinger. “Plus presenting a concert in the Essar Centre is a first for our Festival.”

Unforgettably catchy, the hit song which she co-wrote quickly rose to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart where it remained for nine consecutive weeks. Certified quintuple-platinum in Canada the track is also an international sensation, climbing to No. 1 on the iTunes Singles charts in over 47 countries while the official video has over 400 million YouTube views and the song has sold more than 10 million singles worldwide to date.

Although she’s been an established artist in Canada for several years —two gold singles, two albums, and two Juno Award nominations to her name — Jepsen was a virtual unknown in the U.S. when “Call Me Maybe” hit it big. With the release of her U.S. debut album Kiss, which showcases her rich, distinctive voice, heartfelt lyrics, and down-to-earth charm she reached the Top Ten in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the U.K.

Jepsen won the 2012 American Music Award for Best New Artist and received two 2012 GRAMMY nominations for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year along with three 2013 Juno Awards and was nominated for nine 2013 Billboard Music Awards.

Following her instincts has paid off for Jepsen. Kiss is a killer dance-pop set that is poised to launch her even further into the stratosphere. “I just want people to enjoy it,” she says. “I hope it’s music that makes you feel happy and want to sing or dance along. And maybe it will inspire people to be brave in love.”

Carly Rae Jepsen is joining a line-up that features many iconic Canadian artists including Bruce Cockburn, Gino Vannelli, Holly Cole, Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy and international stars such as Andrea Martin, Jan Vayne, Martin Mans and the cast of Sampradaya Dance Creation’s TAJ.
