Sault College and United Way Sault Ste. Marie and district are proud to present the 4th Annual Trades Day of Caring to be held Saturday, October 26th, 2013. This project provides help to seniors in Sault Ste. Marie with minor household repairs and maintenance which will result in reduced utility costs.
Under the guidance of Sault College Instructors, Sault College trades students will be assigned to several different households to perform minor repairs to seniors’ homes. Small projects will include window caulking, weather stripping, sealing windows for the winter and similar items.
In addition to these services, Sault College students will also be performing outdoor maintenance such as raking and collecting leaves, ensuring exterior faucets are turned off, and hoses are wrapped and put away for winter.
Last year, 35 Sault College Trades Students, 13 Culinary/Hospitality Students and 12 Staff were able to provide assistance to 29 households in Sault Ste. Marie to help with repairs and ensure the homes were prepared for the upcoming winter season.
Applicants will be assessed and approved for this program based on need. If you or anyone you know is a senior, and a home owner, who would be interested in participating; please contact Kaitlyn Irwin at the United Way by phone (705) 256-7476 ext. 213 or email firstname.lastname@example.org before October 21, 2013 to participate in the project.
