The Civic Centre was busier than usual Sunday as the annual Easter Seals telethon went to air in Sault Ste. Marie on SHAW TV Channel 10.

The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie stages the yearly fundraiser for the Easter Seals Society and with the cooperation of City Hall, the council chambers becomes a make-shift studio for the 7 hour event.

“Without the telethon, the local families would have that much more of a burden on them” said Mike Delfre, a Rotarian and volunteer at the telethon.

The telecast attacks a small army of volunteers to man the phones and handle all the behind the scenes work that goes into a telethon.

Monies raised locally goes to the national Easter Seals , the families needing financial assistance apply to the fund to help with the costs of braces, wheelchairs and whatever else the child needs.

Locally, the telethon was hosted by Rogers Radio personality, Jeff McNiece, Tessa Pino and Shannon Gowans.

The telethon raised $110,650 by the time the show went off the air at 7pm.
