It isn’t often that the Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society and the Allard St. Community Garden pair up to offer two plant sales on two subsequent weekends. However, plant lovers will have another opportunity to snap up tomato seedlings, herbs and perennial favourites as well as trees and shrubs.
The third annual $1 $2 $3 Plant Sale will be held this Saturday, May 31 at the Allard St. Community Garden located at 105 Allard St. (next to the Red Cross building) from 8 am to noon, rain or shine.
Proceeds from these plant sales will be used to support a wide variety of horticultural activities and outdoor beautification initiatives in our community. Clean North will be offering trees and shrubs for sale and will be on hand to answer composting and water conservation questions from the general public. Be sure to drop in and view our city’s most successful community garden to date and meet its enthusiastic members, who are only too happy to share their knowledge and hard-earned expertise about vegetable gardening.
According to Suzanne Hanna, Community Garden coordinator, “Plant sale fever usually appears in May and lasts until early fall when the last plant swap of the season has been held. These plant sales offer gardeners an opportunity to get a wonderful variety of local plants attuned to our growing conditions at rock-bottom prices.”
Horticultural memberships offering discounts at a variety of local and area businesses will be available for $15 at the sale or by contacting (705)759-2893.
