A Celebration of the Local Gardening Community

Mother Nature may be tossing a dismal weekend at us weather wise but a trip out to New North Greenhouses on Airport Road for their “Hello Spring Event” is sure to drown away a bit of that cabin fever. The event runs from 10am to 4pm and there are a variety of Vendors, Displays, Food, Music and Activities planned for the entire family.

Special Sessions

Jade WellnessJade Wellness Studio | Noon to 2 p.m.
Join Angela, director of Pilates and Personal Training at Jade Wellness Studio for tips on how to stay strong yet flexible during the gardening season and beyond. Most gardeners will agree that planting and tending to the yard can take a toll on the body. Angela will demonstrate movements that can be done in the weeks leading up to this season. Building the strength ahead of time will prevent injuries and allow you to enjoy being out in the yard so much more! She will also provide a handout of 3 or 4 key movements to stay strong yet flexible during the gardening season.

hort-societySault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Suzanne Hanna from the Sault Horticultural Society will lead an interactive activity about Culinary and Medicinal Herbs. She will also answer any question you have about herbs.

Sault Ste. Marie Fallen Fruit | 10 a.m. to noon
Laura Wyper will be available to talk about SSM Fallen Fruit, a new program in which unused fruit is saved and distributed to volunteers and community agencies that can use it in their programming. It is collaboration between property owners who have fruit trees, shrubs, or plants, volunteers willing to pick the fruit, and organizations that would like to either have their participants be included in a harvest picking and/or would appreciate some of the fruit picked and delivered as a donation to their agency.

* The Fallen Fruit information display will remain up until 4 p.m.

New North Greenhouses Tour | 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Come on a guided tour of behind the scenes at New North Greenhouses! You will be amazed to see the scope of the facility and all the effort it takes to grow the healthy plants that we sell. When you buy from New North, you support a local business and are planting locally grown flowers, vegetables and herbs!
