Have you ever wanted to participate in The Amazing Race? Algoma University’s staff and students will bring a sense of adventure and competition to campus as Grade 11 students from across the Algoma district compete in their own rendition of the popular television series. On May 20th and 21st, the University will host their annual Grade 11 Days, which feature two hours of action-packed racing.
Students from high schools in Sault Ste. Marie, and the surrounding Algoma region, including Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS), will attend Grade 11 Days for an opportunity to get a dynamic tour of the University, including residences, Student Services, the Speak Easy, the Algoma University Students’ Union (AUSU), the Bishop Fauquier Memorial Chapel, and the George Leach Centre (GLC). At least one member from every department in the University will be involved in the days’ activities.
“Grade 11 Days are all about getting to know Algoma University and having fun. We changed the format to an ‘Amazing Race’ like competition last year and it was a hit with the students. Hopefully their experience on campus will encourage them to consider Algoma University when choosing a university next year,” said Admissions Advisor Krystal Szatanski.
The locations and tasks of each challenge have been carefully selected. Each provides students with information and an understanding of how to perform and succeed as a post-secondary student.
After being welcomed onto campus at 10:00am, groups of five or six students will begin racing to complete various challenges and tasks at each location, with the assistance of Admissions Advisors, staff, and international student volunteers. The top three teams who finish the race first successfully on each day will be given prizes.
Students who compete will also be entered into a random draw for a $1,000 tuition reward.
