The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) is pleased to announce that Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Sault Ste. Marie will be home to a Before and After School Care Program beginning in September 2014.
Working in conjunction with Sault College, the school set aside space to accommodate the program, which was developed in response to requests from parents of current and incoming students. The need for such a program became evident last fall when it was announced that St. John Catholic School and Our Lady of Lourdes would consolidate.
“We are very happy to have the Before and After School program starting at Our Lady of Lourdes. Parents at both St. John and Our Lady of Lourdes have been inquiring about it for the past year and I’m glad that we can meet this need. Many parents have already expressed their appreciation about the program,” said Our Lady of Lourdes Principal, Danny Viotto.
“A Before and After School Program will ensure a seamless day for our students. Parents will be relieved to know there are services available at the same site and that their children are in a safe and nurturing environment,” said St. John Principal, Roseanne Lamon.
The Board already has a partnership in place with Sault College at St. Francis French Immersion and St. Paul Catholic School. This arrangement will give peace of mind to parents and provide hands-on experience for students in the college’s Early Childcare Program.
“Our vision in creating Our Lady of Lourdes’ Before and After School program is to provideseamless and consistent learning experiences for children in an Extended-Day program that will complement Our Lady of Lourdes’ Early Learning Kindergarten Program and the school curriculum,” said Sault College Children’s Programs Manager, Nancy Leindecker.
