Police forces across the province joined together Thursday to take your drugs. Your old and unused prescription drugs that is.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police and the Anishinabek Police Service were on hand at two drug drop off centres in Sault Ste. Marie. It gives those who have old and unused prescription drugs an opportunity to dispose of the drugs safely.
“I think it also gives an awareness that people can now drop off the old and unused prescription drugs at pharmacies anytime of the year.” Cst. Monique Baker from the Sault OPP said.
The misuse and abuse of prescription medication has become a public safety issue for communities and police services across the country, who are working together to draw attention to this public safety concern by participating in the Prescription Drug Drop Off a one day initiative supported by the Ontario Association of Chief of Police (OACP), Partnership for a Drug Free Canada, and Public Safety Canada
