UPDATED: Resident Robbed of Cash and Vehicle at Gun Point

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to advise the public that the accused and the victim are known to each other in this incident.  It is not a random act of violence. The accused appeared in bail court this morning.

On May 19, 2014 it is alleged that the accused Jonathan Nathaniel Thompson, age 19 of 6 Copernicus Drive entered a residence in the 800 block of Pine Street and robbed the resident of money at gun point.

While in the residence the accused was masked in an attempt to hide his identity. The accused also obtained the victim’s car keys and on leaving stole the victim’s vehicle.

With the assistance of Batchewana First Nation Police (Rankin) and the OPP, city police apprehended the accused near the MacDonald’s Restaurant on Trunk Road. The accused was found in possession of stolen property and a replica hand gun.

The accused stands charged with robbery with a firearm, wearing a disguise in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, concealing a firearm, theft over $5,000, possession over $5,000 and possession under $5,000. The accused will appear in Wash Court (weekend and statutory holiday court) on May 19, 2014.
