Sixteen students from St. Mary’s College became blood donors on Thursday at the Verdi Hall. It was a first for the secondary school students who joined hundreds of other Sooites at the Canadian Blood Services clinic.
Earlier this year SMC Principal Larry Pezzutto was approached by Canadian Blood Services about an initiative the organization has put together in Sudbury to promote blood donating by secondary school students.
After presenting the benefits of donating blood to age eligible students those that wanted to become a donor were transported to the clinic. The students said being a first time blood donor was a lot easier than they expected and some were pleased that they didn’t ‘pass out’ when they saw the needle.
