The legendary Canadian folk singer VALDY will be making a stop on St. Joseph Island in just a few short days, on Saturday, May 24th, 2014.
A gifted storyteller, singer and songwriter, Valdy is best known for “Play Me a Rock and Roll Song”. He’s released 14 albums in his career and won two Juno awards. As one of Canada’s most-loved performers, this is one show every Canadian should see at least once in their lives.
“Not only is he a gifted songwriter and storyteller, but he’s an incredibly friendly and down to earth Canadian,” said president of the Old Town Hall Concert Series, Jake Cormier. “It’s not hard to see how he’s known as ‘the man with a thousand friends'”.
In 2003, Valdy first performed in Hilton Beach. It was to be an outdoor concert as part of the annual Summer Festival.
“We were met with heavy downpours that day and organizers were ready to cancel but Valdy wouldn’t hear of it,” Cormier said. “Valdy spearheaded the move of the concert indoors to the Hilton Hall, working with organizers and going out to restaurants and public places to promote the new plans.”
“We got a real sense of what kind of person he was that day, and ever since, there have been many in Hilton Beach who count themselves among Valdy’s thousand friends.”
Valdy will be performing as part of a fundraising event for the Old Town Hall Concert Series.
The event is taking place Saturday, May 24th, 2014 at the Hilton Beach Community Hall. A silent auction runs 12:00 to 4:30 and 7:30 to close, with the concert beginning at 8:00pm. Refreshments will be available.
