Weekend For The Dogs

Hundreds of dogs in all shapes and sizes , young and old gathered with their masters to strut their stuff at the annual Soo Kennel Club Dog Show this past weekend at the Soo Curler’s Club.

“We have about 175 for just one show” said Florence Conway, Chairperson for the 2014 Dog Show. “It’s a lot of work getting the dogs ready”

She wasn’t kidding, when the dogs are not in the ring they are busy getting trimmed, washed and dried and all pretty for their next round. “This type of show is more like a beauty pageant” said Maureen Paskins who breeds Alaskan Shepherds. The show attracts hundreds from all over the province

But it’s also about some basic obedience. The dogs must listen to their masters when in the ring being judged.

“You can teach an old dog new tricks” laughs Conway, who is also a member of the Soo Kennel Club. Saultonline was there for part of the weekend show that kicked off Saturday and ended Monday.  Photos By Mike Caruso
