The battle for bragging rights at the HSCDSB West Zone Elementary Track Meet went right down to the wire on Tuesday, June 10 at Joe Forman Track. Capturing the overall title was Our Lady of Lourdes with an aggregate today of 91 points just ahead of the 88 points accumulated by St. Ann’s student-athletes. Finishing in third place was St. John. The East Zone meet will take place Wednesday, June 11. The HSCDSB finals are set for Tuesday, June 17.
On an ideal day there was one new record established. In the Atom Girls Division, Jessica Lepore of St. John posted a distance of 2.63 metres in the standing long jump shattering the old HSCDSB record of 2.22 metres.
There was a quadruple gold medalist in the Bantam Girls Division. Jaydn Pettenuzzo from St. John won the 800 and 400 metre races, the triple jump and was part of the victorious 4 by 100 relay squad.
There were some triple gold winners. In Pee Wee Girls, Hannah Jodoin from Our Lady of Lourdes won the 800M, 400M and triple jump. In Bantam Boys, Justin Finateri from St. Ann won the 200, high jump and was part of the winning 4 by 100 relay team while teammate Dawson Hunter won the softball throw, 800 and 400 metre races.
