If the crowds at the grand opening of the Mill Market is any indication, the area’s newest farmer’s market is set to be come a huge success and the first step in developing the former St. Marys Paper site and the Gateway site into a destination attraction for Sault Ste. Marie’s waterfront.
“We’re just getting started” Justus Veldman CEO of Riversedge Developments, told SaultOnline.com Saturday.
Thousands took in the opening day featuring over 20 vendors, live music, three food vending trucks and plenty of other things to see and do – and of course pick up some of the finest fresh produce in Algoma.
The Canal Drive location, the former Fish Hatchery building will house the farmer’s market each Wednesday and Saturday however it’s only a temporary location.
Eventually the market will move into the main buildings on the former St. Marys Paper site as it transforms into Destination North. The project is set to repurpose the historic Pulp Tower into a cultural, educational and recreational centre.
