Ryan Mitchell isn’t going to have a relaxing Sunday on the sofa or out at camp, but he will spend the day running, swimming and biking through Whistler, B.C.
Mitchel, from Sault Ste. Marie who operates, RAM Fitness and Cycling Studio on Northern Ave., with his wife Alysia have been in B.C. training for the Subaru Ironman Canada in beautiful Whistler.
The race will start with a two-loop, 2.4-mile swim in the clean, shallow waters of Alta Lake at Rainbow Park, which has an average water temperature of 67 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit in late August. Athletes will enjoy a lakeside transition before starting a one-loop, 112-mile bike course with comparable difficulty to the routes at IRONMAN Lake Placid and IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene.
The two-loop run course follows the meandering Valley Trail past Lost Lake and Green Lake, allowing spectators to reinvigorate competitors during a return through Whistler Village at the halfway point. Athletes will finish their day in the Whistler Olympic Plaza.
Ryan is joined in Whistler by his wife and his Mother, Darlene Mitchell along with his Aunt and Uncle John and Mary Coccimiglio and cousins Desiree and Justin Coccimiglio.
Ryan has been competing in various triathlons throughout Canada and the U.S.A over the past six years and completed Ironman 70.3 in both Muskoka Ontario and Racine Wisconsin. “He has been training for Ironman Canada for the last year and looks forward to finally putting his training into action. The Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run. Ironman Canada takes place this morning with a start time of 7am (B.C. time)” said Alysia.
Along with Ryan’s family there for support, many friends and family and R.A.M. members from afar
Best of Luck Ryan!
