The severe threat has now expired. A line of heavy thunderstorms tracked north of the Sault.
At 2:02 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, quarter to toonie size hail and heavy rain.
The line of thunderstorms is located from Chapleau to Sault Ste Marie and is tracking east at about 60 km/h.
Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any storm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Go indoors and move away from windows and skylights. Avoid areas of the building that could be affected by falling debris such as tree limbs. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. In Canada, lightning kills up to 10 people every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.
Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
