On July 8, 2014 the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call of another theft from a yard in Elliot Lake. This time the culprits stole a 1979 Johnson 9.9 outboard motor that was attached to a boat at a residence on Ottawa Avenue. The motor was taken sometime over night and can be easily identified by the owner.
Since the beginning of June the East Algoma Detachment has received an increase in minor thefts in the area. These include items that are left out and stolen from home owner’s yards or people who do not lock their vehicles which makes easy targets for criminals. East Algoma Detachment Commander Inspector Brent Cecchini wants to remind everyone not to leave items in their yards overnight.
Place your belongings in a secure shed or garage to prevent the criminal from just walking away with your possessions. Also, remember to “Lock it or Lose It”. Keep your vehicle locked at all times when you are not in it. It only takes a thief a few seconds to open your door and walk away with your property.
