Dias was named the third most powerful man by Mcleans magazine in 2013 will be making his first visit to Sault Ste. Marie. Jerry was identified by Macleans magazine as the third most powerful man in Canada in 2013. Unifor was created with the merger of two of Canada’s largest unions, The Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers representing tens of thousands of members across the country.
The rally with Jerry Dias and Local 1359 leadership was staged at the Great Northern Road entrance to the Sault Area Hospital to call out to government that health care workers deserve respect and dignity with regards to working conditions and collective bargaining.
Dias says his members have not seen a pay increase since 2011 yet more demands are put on the workers while CEO’s and Executive staff see major increases in their pay. Dias also contributes the Federal government cutting $36 Billion from health care transfers to the provinces that has led to a poor health system.
