Along with Royal Galipeau, MP for Ottawa-Orléans, on Sunday morning MP Hayes was proud to be part of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2014 Canada Army Run on behalf of Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs.
“I was proud to represent the Department of Veterans Affairs and I was excited to be part of such a special occasion,” said MP Bryan Hayes. “Cheering on both of my sons and their partners as they ran in support of our troops was a very proud moment for me as a father and as a Member of Parliament.”
Since 2008, the Canada Army Run has become the fastest growing run in Canada. At this unique event, Canadians can run, walk or roll side-by-side with members of the Canadian Armed Forces in half-marathon and five-kilometre races. Fundraising efforts and proceeds benefit Soldier On and the Military Families Fund.
“My father served in the Canadian Forces for 36 years so veteran’s issues are very close to my heart and I serve proudly on the Standing Committee for Veterans Affairs,” said MP Hayes. “The 25,000 participants – full capacity for the event – and the tens of thousands of spectators and cheer leaders enthusiastically demonstrated their support and encouragement for our armed forces.”
