Steady rain Wednesday brings back memories of a year ago when Sault Ste. Marie was hit with a series of massive thunderstorms producing flooding rain leaving behind substantial damage to roads and homes in the city and surrounding area.
On September 9,2013 Sault Ste. Marie received about 65mm or more rain in 24 hour period
The assessment of damage started the next day with giant holes left on some roads, other roads washed away. The Underpass was hidden under a river when Fort Creek overflowed causing street flooding in the John street area. The city was left in shock.
Rain today is expected to be heavy lasting through to Thursday morning with about 25mm falling by the time a slow moving system makes its way through the Great Lakes.
Here’s a few photos from the SaultOnline files from the great flood of 2013.
