A major power outage caused by downed tress is affecting the city of Sault Ste. Marie Michigan and the upper Peninsula.
Cloverland Electric reports a widespread power outage with 17 substations affected and over 15,000 customers in the dark. 11 of the 17 substations are back on=line though the majority of Sault Michigan is still affected. Gas stations and stores are reportedly closed.
Crews at the scene that work on the problem will not start until at least 10pm according to media reports.
At 9:20 p.m. Cloverland Reports: The equipment needed to make transmission repairs is en route to the area. Contractors will be working to make the necessary repairs on the American Transmission Company’s transmission line as soon as equipment arrives on site. We will continue to post updates as more information becomes available. The ATC transmission system delivers power to Cloverland substations. The substations deliver power to homes and businesses across our service area.
The transmission outage is still impacting services in Sault Ste. Marie, Sugar Island and Dafter areas. We will continue to post updates as they become available from the field.
