Wide Spread Power Outage Blamed On The Wind

A major windstorm Wednesday evening was the cause of widespread outages in Algoma Power Inc.’s service territory.

The outages started east of Sault Ste. Marie in the St. Joseph Island and North Shore areas at approximately 5:30 p.m.

At 6:20 p.m. outages were reported north of Sault Ste. Marie including Goulais, Batchawana, Northland Lake, Hwy 556 and other pockets in Aweres Township.

At 7:50 p.m. Michipicoten and Michipicoten Harbour customers in the Wawa area experienced outages.

1200 customers are without power at 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

Algoma Power crews responded immediately to the trouble calls on Wednesday evening and will continue to restore power today.
