On the 17th of September 2014 at approximately 9:00 am 32-year old Joshua Brandon Smith of 4-424 Parliament Street attempted to escape from correction officers from the Algoma Treatment and Remand Center. City Police were called and as a result the accused has been charged with one count of attempt to escape from lawful custody. He will appear in bail court this morning.

Shoplifting
On the 17th of September 2014 at approximately 2:30 pm Patrol Services attended at Canadian Tire for a theft complaint. It is alleged that the male stole a DVD from the store and was apprehended by security. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behavior. The accused has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation. He will appear in court on the 21st of October 2014.

In The Middle
On the 17th of September 2014 at approximately 3:57pm Patrol Services responded to the corner of Albert Street West and Carmen’s Way with regards to a complaint of a motor vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway. Upon speaking to the operator of the motor vehicle police detected the odor of alcohol on his breath. As a result, a roadside screening device demand was made to the driver, who refused to provide a sample. 66-year old Bela Farkas of 405-126 Kohler Street was charged with one count of failing to provide a sample on an approved screening device. He will appear in court on the 20th of October 2014.

Impaired Driver
On the 17th of September 2014 at approximately 9:26 pm officers from Investigation Services and Patrol Services stopped a motor vehicle on North Street as a result of receiving information that the driver was impaired. Officers believed that the accused has been drinking and he was brought to the police station for a breathalyzer test. As a result of this 50-year old Kevin Christopher Hammond of 452 John Street was charged with one count impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. The accused will appear in court on October 20th.

Outstanding Warrant
On the 18th of September 2014 at approximately 1:20 am officers from Patrol Services arrested 51-year old Edward Roland Martel of 306 Korah Road on an outstanding warrant for fail to re-attend court. It is alleged that the accused fail to re-attend a court date in May that stemmed from a shoplifting matter. The accused has been charged with one count of fail to attend court and will appear in bail court today.
