Fire Prevention Week

Sault Fire Services

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services would like to remind the public that this week is Fire Prevention week. This year’s theme is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives…Test Yours Every Month”.   Over the course of Fire Prevention Week, Fire Services will have a display at Home Depot and Canadian Tire with a Fire Prevention Officer on hand to discuss smoke alarms and any other fire related issues you may have.

“Working Smoke alarms are the most important life safety device we have within our homes” states Prevention Officer Carlo Provenzano. “They are required on all levels and need to be tested on a regular basis.”

Over the course of the last five years, Fire Services records indicate over 90% of the homes in our community have working smoke alarms.  Our community should be proud that we are a leader in Ontario in that regard, but cannot stop there.  Our goal is to ensure 100% of the homes in this community have working smoke alarms.

Fire Services encourages homeowners to test your alarms this week to ensure they are working properly, change the batteries at least twice per year and ensure alarms are tested on a monthly basis.
