On October 25, 2014 at approximately 1:55 a.m. Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call from a motorist advising he had put his van in the ditch on highway 563 in Batchewana Bay, Ontario.
OPP attended the area and located the vehicle and driver who exhibited signs of alcohol impairment.
As a result of further police investigation it was learned that the vehicle had been stolen from a residence on highway 563 in Batchewana Bay, Ontario.
Dustin William ELIE, 21 years old, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was arrested and charged with one count of Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired; one count of Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol; one count of Theft Over $5000; and one count of Possession of Property Obtained By Crime over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused was released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on November 24, 2014.
