On the 24th of October between 3pm and 5 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received several phone calls with persons inquiring about a shooting in the downtown area and various schools and daycares being involved in lockdowns.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has not received any calls regarding any shootings in the City nor are we investigating any additional shootings; apart from the ongoing investigation that began on Wednesday October 22nd.
If there was a major incident the public can be reassured that a media release would be forthcoming.
Officers from Investigation Services are continuing to work on the shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in the 100 block of Wellington Street East.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is encouraging anyone with information in relation to the shooting from Wednesday October 22nd to contact City Police at 705-949-6300 or Crime Stoppers.
I’m afraid it’s gonna be like Ottawa for a while now.. Every time a car backfires or some kid lets off a firecracker the rumour mill will kick in and people will go into panic mode.. Sad really.. I lived near there for a year and never felt threatened, even walking the dog at night.
Think the Sault Police wanted to curb some rumours of additional shootings 🙂
