Local MP Bryan Hayes released the following statement on the 2014 municipal elections that took place in Sault Ste. Marie:
“Yesterday, constituents came together to elect Sault Ste. Marie`s municipal leaders and school board trustees.
I extend congratulations to all of the successful candidates on their re-election success and recognize the newly elected candidates of Ward three, Matthew Shoemaker and Judy Hupponen, along with Ross Romano of Ward 6. I wish each of you the very best as you begin the important work of representing your constituents. I look forward to the progress we will make for Sault Ste. Marie in our work together during our tenure as elected officials.
As a former member of council, I understand the hard work and dedication that goes into running a municipal campaign. More importantly, I recognize that hard work is motivated by a desire to make a positive difference in your community. As such, I commend all those who made the election possible including campaign staff, volunteers and especially the voters for their contribution to the democratic process.
Lastly, I would like to express my heart-felt appreciation for the dedication and service of Mayor Debbie Amoroso during her term. Regardless of the election outcome, Debbie`s work has made a significant impact and a positive difference to the community and the City of Sault Ste. Marie. I look forward to continuing that working relationship with the incoming Mayor, Christian Provenzano and congratulate him on his victory. “
