On the 11th of October 2014 officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were out conducting RIDE checks. In a 5 hour period officers checked 195 vehicles. No charges were laid for impaired driving by alcohol or drugs and no 90 day suspensions were issued.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to thank those who celebrated the long weekend by not drinking and driving for doing your part to keep our roads safe.

On October 10, 2014 at approximately1:55 pm a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division observed a silver SUV travelling at a high rate of speed westbound on Trunk Road. The vehicle was stopped. As a result of further police investigation 23 year old Samantha TULLOCH of Goulais River, Ontario was arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, schedule 3, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and one count of Drive Motor Vehicle perform a stunt by speeding 50 km or more under the Highway Traffic Act on Ontario. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on November 24, 2014.
On October 10, 2014 at approximately 2:15 pm a Batchewana First Nation police officer on patrol observed an SUV swerving all over the roadway and stopped the vehicle on Syrette Lake Road. Upon speaking with the driver and further police investigation, 33 year old Nadia PEZZUTTO of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was arrested and charged with one count of Impaired Driving and one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on November 3, 2014.
On October 13, 2014 at approximately 2:15 pm a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety division observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Highway 17 in Laird Township. The vehicle was stopped and as a result of police investigation 72 year old James HILL of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was arrested and charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on November 17, 2014.
