Vote-By-Mail for Rural Ratepayers

The Vote-By-Mail option has been selected once again by the Algoma District School Board (ADSB) as a means of voting in the upcoming election and is available for electors residing in the unorganized townships, or owning property in the unorganized townships and residing outside of the Algoma District.

As the largest Board in the Algoma District, ADSB has taken the lead, holding elections for all four School Boards including Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB), Conseil Scolaire de District du Grand Nord de L’Ontario and Le Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (acclaimed), as well as the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (DSSMSSAB). Costs of the initiative will be shared by all five entities. Marlene Tabaczuk, Returning Officer for the Algoma District School Board, has made arrangements to conduct the election for the unorganized townships

“We have a large group of candidates vying for a limited number of seats in the unorganized townships north of Sault Ste. Marie. The Vote-by-Mail option in the past has proven to be successful with a greater voter response than in previous elections that were not Vote-by-Mail.” said Marlene Tabaczuk. “Vote-by-Mail has proven to be convenient for voters and remains to be results oriented.”

Electors in the unorganized areas were mailed a voter kit on October 2nd, 2014. According to Mrs. Tabaczuk electors should be receiving Vote-By-Mail kits this week. Voters will be asked to complete the ballot and voter declaration by October 18th. The ballots can be mailed to or dropped off at the ADSB Education Centre at 644 Albert Street East, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, P6A 2K7.

By law, voters can only vote once for any elected office within the same school board jurisdiction. For example, if a person’s primary residence is in the City of Sault Ste. Marie and that person also owns property in the unorganized area, they must vote only once for the office of school board trustee, and that is in the municipality in which they reside. Electors residing in the City of Sault Ste. Marie will not be receiving a Vote-By-Mail Ballot for school board trustees.
