Police Purse Snatching

Yesterday afternoon a homeowner in the 1100 block of Queen Street East reported a break and enter. The break in occurred during the daytime. Items taken include electronics, clothing and cologne.

Shortly after 3:30 am this morning Muio’s Confectionary was broken into. A large quantity of cigarettes was taken.

Yesterday afternoon just after 2:30 pm an adult female was walking southbound on Church Street when a male ran up behind her and stole her purse. The male was last seen on Herrick Street. The only description of the male is that he was 5 feet 8 inches tall and was wearing a grey fleece hoodie and dark pants. The purse is described as a black “Kathy”brand purse with a pink interior, with a top zipper and pockets on both sides. Shortly before 11:30 pm on the 18th of November a homeowner in the 300 block of Wilson Street called 911 to report a male was trying to break into the residence. The male fled the area in a white vehicle and a physical description was provided by the caller. A window at the residence had been broken and a wiper on a vehicle had been bent. The suspect was scared off by the homeowner.

At approximately 1:30 am officers received a call to attend in the 300 block of St. Georges Avenue East for a male attempting to break into vehicles. The description of this male matched the call to Wilson Street. Upon their arrival officers located the male suspect beside a vehicle that had been damaged with a hammer. He was taken into custody without incident. While dealing with the male, officers learned that he was also wanted for an assault from November 11th where he assaulted a male by punching him in the stomach and biting him.

33-year old Brendan Gignac of 223-345 St. Georges Avenue East has been charged with one count of break and enter, one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of assault. He will appear in bail court this morning.

27-year old Michael Morningstar of 827 Goulais Avenue was arrested and has been charged with one count of uttering threats to damage property, one count of mischief, one count of arson-disregard for human life and one count of possession of incendiary material. He will appear in bail court this morning.
