Member of Parliament Bryan Hayes (Sault Ste. Marie) on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), announced today an investment to support the adoption and adaptation of innovative technologies and processes by small and medium-sized businesses in the Sault Ste. Marie region.
“Our Government is proud to support initiatives that encourage innovation, commercialization and the development of management and trade capacity in small and medium-sized enterprises in Northern Ontario. The investments announced today will help businesses in the Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma region to take advantage of growth opportunities and create jobs.” said Bryan Hayes Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie
A FedNor investment of $762,000 will enable the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) to undertake two initiatives. Of the total, $452,000 will be used to deliver the Broadband E-business and Marketing program. Through the program, the SSMIC will assist eligible small and medium-sized enterprises to develop their digital skills and incorporate e-business technologies into their operations.
With the remaining $310,000, the Innovation Centre will deliver the Innovation Accelerator Program to help qualified high-tech enterprises in the region with innovative business and product development activities, such as market research, e-commerce and promotion, and lean production implementation.
“We are excited about the positive results that these initiatives will generate with the support of FedNor and the Government of Canada. There is pent up demand for these programs that will help companies take advantage of e-business solutions to remain current and prosper in today’s global economy.” said Tom Vair Executive Director, Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre
