The Greyhounds took the lead against the Plymouth Whalers at the 1:56 mark on a goal by Keigan Goetz in the first period and never looked back.
The second goal for the Greyhounds was by Michael Bunting at 5:48 giving the Sault a 2-0 hold on Plymouth at the end of the first period.
Just 29 seconds into the second period the Whalers pulled within one on a goal by Danny Vanderwiel.
Even after a double minor for high-sticking given to Yannick Rathgeb at the 4:00 mark, the Greyhounds couldn’t increase their lead on the Power Play.
Gabe Guertler got his 10th goal of the season at 16:37 to give the Sault a two goal lead and by the close of the second period the Sault lead Plymouth by a score of 3-1.
Plymouth’s Mathew Campagna would put the puck behind Brandon Halverson at 11:25 of the third period to cut lead to one, but the Greyhounds held on to win by a score of 3-2.
