Jeffries Lifts T-Birds Past Wildcats

After defeating the Sudbury Nickel Barons 4-1 on Wednesday night without Coach Smith and Assistant Coach Maunu, the Soo Thunderbirds were looking to wrap up their road trip with a win tonight in Elliot Lake heading in undefeated in seventeen games.

The Soo led 1-0 after twenty minutes as Jaren Bellini scored his fifteenth of the season at 12:24 with assists going to Joey Ogden and Connor Dea. Just eleven ticks into the second period, it would be Elliot Lake tying it up at one courtesy of Cole Hepler’s thirteenth from Spencer MacLean and Adam Baxter. Then at 8:51 on the powerplay, it would be Spencer MacLean getting his eleventh of the season with Adam Baxter picking up his second assist of the evening.

With the Thunderbirds trailing 2-1 after forty, it would be Brett Jeffries tying it up at 14:04 into the third with his fourth of the season from Boris Katchouk and Eric Hillock. The teams were tied 2-2 heading into overtime until Brett Jeffries second of the game and fifth of the season put it away to give the Soo a 3-2 win over the Elliot Lake Wildcats tonight at Centennial Arena while extending their unbeaten streak to eighteen straight games.

Rookie net-minder Mario Culina made twenty three stops for his league leading tenth win of the season. Next game for the Thunderbirds will be on Wednesday, November 26th in a rematch game vs the Elliot Lake Wildcats with the game beginning at 7:30 from the John Rhodes.
