Korah Colts Stampede Into The City Final

The first matchup was between the first place Korah Colts against the 5th Place White Pines Wolverines in Junior Girls Basketball Semi-finals played at Korah.

Both teams traded hoops in the first quarter and after the first quarter the score had the Colts leading the Wolverines by a score of 9 – 6.

The second quarter seen quite a few chances missed and turnovers by both teams but, White Pines capitalized on the majority of turnovers and the results were relfected on the scoreboard at half-time with White Pines – 16 and Korah – 13.

At the start of the third quarter the Colts turned up the heat on the Wolverines and dominated the court only allowing White Pines to gain one point while Korah accumulated 19 and at the end of the 3rd quarter the score was Korah – 32, White Pines – 17.

With the pressure on, the Wolverines made quite a few mistakes which was the daunting factor in Korah winning the Semi-Final game by a score of 40 – 23.

Korah’s top point getters were Taylor Elliott with 11 pts, Kaylan Kohvakko – 8 pts and Rylee Dunbar with 15 pts.

In the other semi-final game Superior Heights beat St. Mary’s by a score of 35 – 19. Jones had 10 pts, Bruni and Dinter had 9 each for Superior Heights.

In Senior Girls action the third place Korah Colts faced off against second place Superior Heights Steelhawks.

The first quarter was like a see-saw battle with both teams making the most of their chances on making points and after the first quarter the Steelhawks led the Colts by a score of 19-14.

By the end of the second quarter both teams made quite a few errors and this was shown in the foul count being equal at 10 for Superior Heights and Korah.

Korah did more damage on the scoreboard by adding 4 more points than Superior Heights and at the end of the first half the score was Korah – 35 and Superior Heights – 26.

The third quarter had Superior Heights cut into Korah’s lead by one basket and by the end of the third quarter Korah was leading Superior Heights by a score of 43-36.

There was a majority of turnovers and fouls made by Superior Heights during the fourth quarter and that was the downfall of the Steelhawks as they lost to the Colts by a score of 60-48.

For Korah Averi Bodnar had 17 pts and Tori Ivey – 14 pts. For Superior Heights Kiara Hamilton had 14 pts and Autumn Brule – 12 pts

In the other Senior Girl action St. Mary’s beat White Pines by a score of 27-19.

Sault College will be the stage for the City Finals on Saturday, 8 November. The Junior City Final Korah will go against Superior Heights and the Senior Girls will see Korah vs St. Mary’s.
