Well the NFL has the Super Bowl and the CFL has the Grey Cup, well here in Sault Ste Marie we have the Snow Bowl.

To start the day on this cold and windy afternoon had the Lively Hawks go up against the Korah Colts for the Junior NOSSA championship.

With the field still covered from the snowfall last night and this morning the game was still a go and game was more of a running one than passing.

Despite the temperatures fans for the Lively Hawks and Korah Colts were in the stands cheering on their respective team.

The Hawks had the kick off and the Colts slowly advanced the line of scrimmage deep into the Hawks zone but Lively kept Korah from getting into the endzone.

On a pass from Hawks QB Nicholas Rideout to Jeremy Welsh and only a yard to go for a first down failed to get the yard on the fourth down which gave Korah possession just before the end of the first quarter.

The teams switched ends for the second quarter and Korah’s Darian Belkosky took a hand off from QB Michael Byron and Belkosky bulldozed his way into the end zone for a touchdown at the 10:32 mark and with the convert the score was Korah 7, Lively 0. Both team’s defensive lines worked hard to keep the other team’s offense from gaining a lot of yardage and at half-time the score was still 7-0 in favour of Korah.

The next scoring wouldn’t happen until the 3rd quarter when Darian Belkosky would get another hand off from Michael Byron and Belkosky dove across the goal line for the touchdown at the 5:11 mark. The convert attempt was blocked by the Hawks and by the end of the quarter the score would be 13 – 0 for the Colts.

After three attempts to score another touchdown in the fourth quarter the Colts opted for a kick and Hawks Charlie Dow was tackled in the end zone by Korah which gave Korah one more point to make the score Korah – 14, Lively – 0 which ended up being the final for the Junior NOSSA Championship.

Both teams played hard and the comradeship from both teams was at the top of the scale.

The Senior NOSSA Final, Snow Bowl Part 2, will continue on Wednesday with Lo-Ellen Knights in town to take on the Superior Heights SteelHawks.

Game time is at 2:00 PM.
