With six wins in s row, the Soo Thunderbirds midgets were looking to make it seven straight as they travelled to Sudbury for a clash against the Nickel Capital Wolves.
The Soo would trail 1-0 after the first until Kirk Garson’s first of the season tied things up just 1:31 into the second with assists going to Ryan Mulligan and Jonathan Dyer. After Thomas Farrell’s shorthanded goal at 9:55 put the Wolves up 2-1, it would be Kirk Garson getting his second of the season and second of the game at 15:08 with assists going to Brad Thrower and Brendan Gillis.
With the teams tied 2-2 heading into the third, it would be Matt Murray’s powerplay goal and seventh of the season putting the Soo on top 3-2 just twenty one seconds in with assists going to Jared Fanti and Kirk Garson. The Soo would get another powerplay goal just 1:24 later as Ryan Mulligan would notch his twelfth of the season putting the T-Birds up 4-2 with assists going to Zach Senecal and Jared Fanti. Sudbury would cut the lead to 4-3 on the powerplay at 3:49 courtesy of Owen Fransen’s eleventh of the season with Eric Paquette drawing the only assist. Brendan Gillis’s eighteenth of the season put the Soo up 5-3 at 9:10 with Brad Thrower and Ryan Mulligan picking up the helpers. Kirk Trayner’s second of the night on the powerplay and fourth of the season at 13:33 would make it a 5-4 game with Kyle Liinamaa and Jake Stos drawing the assists. Brad Thrower’s ninth of the season would put it away into the empty net with just twenty eight seconds left from Brendan Gillis and Ryan Mulligan as the Soo Thunderbirds would go into their seventh straight victory defeating the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves 6-4 while improving their record to 15-4-0-1-0 good for first in the Great North Midget League with thirty one points.
Joey Roberts was in goal tonight for the victory and next action for the Thunderbirds is Friday, November 28th at 7:20 when they visit the West Ferris Community Centre to take on the North Bay Trappers.
