Sault Ste. Marie, ON – PUC wishes to advise the public of the following water distribution activities for the week of December 1st, 2014. This notice is organized into three sections; Infrastructure Renewal, Operation Activities and UDF Activity.

INFRASTRUCTURE RENEWAL

PUC is committed to the continual improvement of our water distribution system. The following is a list of active infrastructure renewal projects currently underway:

  • Forest Avenue
  • A section of watermain at the intersection of Simpson Street and Forest Avenue is being replaced. During that process, customers in the area generally bounded by Ontario Avenue to Wellington Street and Pim Street to Upton Road are reminded that there is a possibility they could draw discoloured water.
  • Shannon Well Restart
  • As part of the Water Quality Improvement Project the Shannon Well was shut down to allow the installation of new equipment. The Well is tentatively scheduled to return to service Tuesday December 2nd. There is a possibility that customers in the area could experience discoloured water as a result of the restart procedure.

OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Operational activities for the week are:

  • Connaught Avenue

A new commercial water service is being installed, tested and commissioned for a new building.

  • Crimson Ridge Condo Development

A new commercial water service is being installed, tested and commissioned for a new condominium development.

  • 129 Allen’s Side Road

A new commercial water service is being installed, tested and commissioned for a new building.

  • 785 Great Northern Road – Northside Mazda

A new water service is being installed, tested and commissioned for the new Northside Mazda.

  • 306 Northern Avenue East – Lowe’s

A new commercial water service is being installed, tested and commissioned for a new building.

  • 75 Huron Street

A new commercial water service is being installed, tested and commissioned for a new building.

  • 496 Second Line West

A new commercial water service is being installed, tested and commissioned for a new apartment complex.

There is a chance customers in the areas impacted by Infrastructure Renewal or Operational Activities could experience discoloured water. This is because any time there is a major change in the rate or direction of flow of water in the distribution system, sediment in the watermains can be disturbed and carried along with the water.

UNIDIRECTIONAL FLUSHING PROGRAM

PUC water customers are advised that the Unidirectional Flushing (UDF) Program has finished for the season.

The PUC would like to remind all customers that work scheduled for next week is tentative and subject to change due to weather or resource constraints.
