Reminder to Leash Your Dogs

1

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has received complaints of unleashed dogs in public areas, specifically Topsail Island, at the south end of Bellevue Park.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind the public that citizens are required by Sault Ste. Marie Bylaw to have their dog(s) on a leash that is six feet or less in length at all times when in any place other than the premises of the dog owner.

To ensure that everyone can enjoy our outdoors City Police encourage all dog owners to respect the many other users of our park and outdoor areas by keeping their dogs leashed at all times.

  1. I totally agree with the leashing, as my dog was attacked yesterday in our own parking lot, but when we are out in the middle of a park and the mutt is chasing snowballs and we aren’t bothering anyone, the leash comes off.. You can’t properly exercise a dog even by running with them on leash. Our city, in all it’s marvelous glory, put an off leash park out in an area that half the dog owners in town can’t get to without an expensive cab ride so I will continue my current practice. When we are among other people and pets he’s always leashed as he should be but he needs exercise whenever I can provide it. Fence Rosedale or Forest Heights parks, or even the area across from the Casino that just sits there doing nothing so that older people without wheels can have a place to play with their pets off leash. That park out on 2nd line is an exercise in stupidity, period….
