Sault Area Hospital (SAH) was recently honoured with two awards recognizing outstanding health and safety practices and quality workplaces.
At the national level, SAH received a Canada’s Safest Employers Award (Silver Level) in the Health Care category at a gala event in Toronto on Oct. 28. Sponsored by Thomson Reuters and Workplace Safety Prevention Services, these awards recognize companies from all across Canada with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their workers.
The awards celebrate leaders in a broad range of industry-specific categories, from health care to hospitality, mining and natural resources, transportation, retail, manufacturing and more. Companies were judged on a wide range of occupational health and safety elements, including employee training, Occupational Health and Safety management systems, incident investigation, emergency preparedness and innovative health and safety initiatives. Provincially, SAH also received a 2014 Quality Healthcare Workplace Award (Gold Level), sponsored by the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Health care organizations from across Ontario participated in this program and raised the bar of excellence for quality health care workplaces. A high-calibre adjudication panel of quality workplace experts completed a rigorous assessment process when reviewing all the candidates, which focused on identifying drivers of employee and organizational health. Quality Healthcare Workplace Award winners were honoured at the OHA’s annual conference on Nov. 4.
“I want to congratulate everyone at SAH on these achievements,” says Ron Gagnon, SAH President & CEO. “This recognition validates the efforts our organization has put into improving health and safety over the last several years. I am proud of each and every member of the SAH team for the important role they play in making our hospital a safe workplace.”
