After edging the Elliot Lake Wildcats 3-2 in overtime on Friday, November 21st at Centennial Arena, the Soo Thunderbirds were back at home for the first time since Friday, October 10th in a 5-4 double overtime pink in the rink night win vs Abitibi and we’re looking to make it back to back victories vs Elliot Lake. Tonight also marked the home debut of Soo Greyhounds second round pick Boris Katchouk who entered the game with three goals and five assists in ten games.

The Soo trailed 1-0 after the first courtesy of Kevin Miller’s second of the season from Shane Woolsey and Alec MacKenzie at 8:22. Elliot Lake would take a 2-0 lead at the 4:05 mark of the second courtesy of Shane Woolsey’s eighth of the season from Josef Kittelberger and Kevin Miller. Elliot Lake would add an empty net goal with seven seconds left in the third courtesy of Cole Hepler’s fourteenth of the season from Aaron Carmichael giving the T-Birds their first regulation loss in eighteen straight games defeating them by a score of 3-0.

Mario Culina picked up the loss in his fourth straight start and it also marked the Thunderbirds first shutout loss at home since Sunday, February 16th, 2014 when they dropped a 5-0 decision to the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners ending their franchise record twenty five game winning streak.

Next action for the Soo will be Saturday, November 29th at 7:30 as they travel to Blind River and can clinch the Provenzano Cup from the Blind River Community Centre.
