The first period seen both the Wolves and Hounds hitting hard but the Soo kept trying to fire on the net but Sudbury players were sacrificing their bodies to block a majority of the shots. Sudbury bounced right back with another 2 on 1 break and Raaymakers would block Pancel from scoring. Not to be denied when Sudbury’s Jonathan Duchesne was serving a double minor for High Sticking, Guertler would win the draw deep in the Wolves territory and Bunting would jump on the loose puck just three seconds into the first penalty to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.

Nathan Pancel would tie the game for Sudbury on a break out pass. Tolchinsky realized that the Greyhounds had too many men on the ice and started to head to the bench but decided to stay out. While Tolchinsky was in the penalty box Colton White got a Cross Checking penalty which gave the Wolves a 5 on 3 for about 30 seconds. Jenys would score on Raaymakers just after Tolchinsky was out of the box to put Sudbury into the lead by one goal.
