It was a quiet first period in the game between the Soo Greyhounds and the Saginaw Spirit with neither team scoring. The Spirit were out shot 10 to 7.
The Greyhounds put it into high gear at the start of the second period. With Brown in the penalty box for tripping, Kyle Jenkins would rip one past Paterson to give the Greyhounds their first goal.
Jared McCann would add another power play tally for the Hounds at the 4:22 mark to make the score 2-0. Mac Hollowell would score after being set up from the face off at 6:18 to increase the Greyhound’s lead to 3-0.
Saginaw would pull within two on a goal by Mitchell Stephens at 12:05. On a 2 on 1, Zachary Senyshyn would give the Greyhounds their 3 goal cushion at 14:26.
Saginaw, while short handed, again would close the gap as Stephens would deposit a loose puck to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Greyhounds.
Senyshyn would close out the scoring for the second period at 19:23 and at the end of the period the score was Greyhounds 5, Saginaw 2.
Blake Speers would add another power play marker at 8:40 of the third period. With a lot of traffic in front of Saginaw’s net minder Paterson, Medric Mercier would add another marker to close out the game with the final score of 7 – 2.
The Greyhounds doubled the shots on goal by the Spirit 42 to 21.
Ottawa will be in town on Saturday for the first game of 2015 with game time of 7:00.
