June, 8 1960 – November 27, 2014 | After a courageous battle with cancer, we say goodbye to Rick. Rick spent his life outside, exploring the streams, lakes, and mountains of the north. For as long as anyone can remember he was happiest with a shotgun or a fishing rod, and a pair of rubber boots.
He will be missed greatly by his sister Sherry, and his brother-in-law/hunting partner Harvey. Nieces Leigha and Jennifer will miss his stories, cooking tips and famous pickled vegetables. Rick was life-long hero and big brother to Jamie, and friend and stepson to Jim McWhirter, both of Timmins, Ontario. Mother Myra McWhirter was waiting up above for her boy to join her.
Rick was dedicated to his job at Essar Steel, and his incredible coworkers were by his side until the very end. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Sault Area Hospital for their tremendous care and expertise. Special thank you to nurse Chantal for her compassion and unfaltering encouragement.
A beautiful celebration of Rick’s life was held on December 1, 2014 at Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre. Friends, coworkers, and family filled the room to share memories and smile at a life well lived.
Cheers, Rick. We know you’re doing one final round at the Steel Plant before grabbing a cold one and retiring to an old spec pond or the flats near camp.
