The Sault is home to Olympic curlers, so we know we have some pretty good curlers around including this team from this past weekend that earned themselves an 8 Ender.

The Duncan Janveau team scored the 8 ender this past Saturday at Soo Curlers rink in the Mercantile League.

“Earlier on in the game we were down 5-1 and crawled back to tie the game 5-5. Going into the 7th end we were down 6-5 with the hammer. We had 4 rocks in the house already and I (Calvin) joked with Ken Ferguson before he threw his first rock mentioning to him – hey Ken, no pressure but we are working on an 8 ender.” Lead Calvin Rimkey said.

“After Ken had thrown his rocks it was Duncan’s turn and unbelievably still had all our rocks in the house. I then joked again mentioning to Duncan no pressure but we have all our rocks in the house and working on an 8 ender. Duncan acknowledged with a chuckled but had no idea that the 8 ender would become a reality until it came down to his last shot where all our rocks in the house except for the one he was about to throw. Only needing a draw to place his rock in the house Duncan, without hesitation drew his rock in the house to score the 8 ender.”

“It was an incredible feeling to score the 8 ender as we all were in disbelieve we had actually accomplished that. It is like getting a hole in one – actually I think a lot harder.” Rimkey said.
