With the Toledo Walleye Winterfest continuing at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio, there will be another former Soo Thunderbird participating in the second ever ECHL outdoor game. After former T-Bird Matt Caria notched the game winner for the Kalamazoo Wings in a 2-1 win over the Toledo Walleye on December 27th, Brett Perlini will become the second T-Bird alumnus to participate in the next ECHL outdoor game on January 3rd, 2015, when him and the Fort Wayne Komets take on the hosts Toledo Walleye.
The twenty four year old Soo native is currently in his third ECHL season and was acquired by the Komets in a trade with the Indy Fuel on November 22nd, 2014. Perlini, who was selected in the 3rd round (41st overall) in the 2006 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection by the Soo Greyhounds, spent two seasons with the Soo Thunderbirds during 2006-2008, while leading the NOJHL with thirty goals in 2006-2007, along with winning the league’s rookie of the year. He is also the T-Birds all time leader for most power play goals in one season with eighteen, during his rookie campaign in 2006-2007.
The former Soo Thunderbird who has outdoor hockey experience after playing at The Big Chill at the Big House, when him and the Michigan Spartans dropped 5-0 to the Michigan Wolverines back on December 11th, 2010 at Michigan Stadium, the former 2010 seventh round pick of the Anaheim Ducks will become the second former Soo Thunderbird to suit up the second ECHL outdoor game after Matt Caria, who participated in the first.
