After opening up their road trip on Friday with a 6-2 loss in North Bay, the Soo Thunderbirds Midgets rebounded on Saturday with a 6-2 victory of their own followed by a 5-3 win this afternoon in the gateway city.
On Saturday the Soo led 3-0 after the first getting goals from Ryan Mulligan, Cameron Elsby’s first of the season and Noah Serre. The Soo went up 4-0 just forty one ticks into the second courtesy of Lucas Millar’s goal before Jack Drinkwalter would cut the lead to 4-1 at the 3:51 mark.
With the Soo leading 4-1 heading into the third, it would be Jason Bednarski scoring at 8:52 putting the T-Birds up 5-1. Trappers forward Craig Johnson would cut the lead to three with his first of the year from Jack Drinkwalter at 12:41. Jakob Porco’s powerplay marker with under seven minutes left in regulation rounded out the scoring as the Soo answered back with a 6-2 victory of their own vs North Bay just twenty four hours after losing 6-2 to the same team. Ryan Mulligan and Jason Bednarski had a goal and a helper while Matt MacKay, Brad Thrower and Jared Fanti all finished off the game with a pair of helpers. Joey Roberts was in goal for the Soo’s win while North Bay’s Coltan Point registered the loss.
In Sunday afternoon’s action, the Soo Thunderbirds midgets were back at the West Ferris Community Centre in North Bay looking to win the weekend series with both teams winning once. The Soo skated to a 5-3 win this afternoon versus the Trappers winning the series 2-1. Zach Senecal led the way with two goals and two helpers while Brad Thrower finished off the game with a pair of goals. Joey Roberts was in goal for the Soo’s second straight victory while Brendan Dale recorded the loss for the Trappers.
Next action for the T-Birds is this Wednesday, December 3rd at 7:00 when they take on the Soo Indians from the Essar Centre.
