On January 1st, 2015 officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were conducting RIDE in the area of Wellington Street West at Dundas Street.
Shortly after 3AM officers observed a green Chevrolet pickup truck with a female driver that was slowly approaching the check point. The driver appeared to be struggling to keep the vehicle in the proper lane. Officers spoke with the female driver and determined that her ability to operate the vehicle was impaired by alcohol.
42 year old driver Melanie Turner-Chapman of 292 Pittsburgh Avenue was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Mrs. Turner-Chapman was brought to the Police Station where she was administered a breath test that determined she was more than three times over the legal limit. As a result she was also charged with being over the legal limit.
Mrs. Turner-Chapman was further charged under the Highway Traffic Act for being a suspended driver.
Melanie Turner-Chapman is scheduled to appear in court on January 26th, 2015 at 9AM.
