Police Vehicles Damaged in Highway Pursuit

On January 6, 2015 shortly before 12:00 p.m., officers with the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment received a report of a theft of gas from a Massey gas station.
The white sports utility vehicle was observed travelling westbound on Highway 17, east of Blind River.  The vehicle was stopped and as police were dealing with the passenger who had exited the vehicle, the driver fled.  Police investigation revealed that the vehicle in question was reported stolen from Nova Scotia and a Suspect Apprehension Pursuit (SAP) was initiated.   The pursuit ended near Iron Bridge when the male fled on foot and was later apprehended on the property of a seasonal residence.
Several cruisers were damaged as a result of the pursuit.  No one sustained any injuries.
Highway 17 was temporarily closed for public safety.
More information will become available as the investigation is still ongoing.
