Replace Him or Not

Mayor Christian Provenzano took time out of his busy day to talk to saultonline.com about the issue of replacing Joe Fratisi or not, when he retires.

The responsibilities of the CAO are spelled out on the city’s website at the following link,

Some people in this city think that there is no need to replace the outgoing CAO, but on the other hand, there are a lot of people that think that it is crucial that a new man is hired. Where some people think that the CAO is just a middle man between council and staff, Mayor Provenzano makes it quite clear that there is a lot of work that the CAO does, that people aren’t aware of.
The report that was given to the mayor and councillors by Peter Niro, Commissioner of Human Resources, for discussion at the meeting on Monday, January 26th, concerning the issue is on page 114 and 115 of Monday’s agenda, also found on the city’s website.

  1. If the CAO position is to stay strongly suggest a salary review of the position. SSM CAO earning $195,741.70 plus perks for population of approx 75,000 – Subury CAO earning $221,000 for over double the population at approx 160,000. Salary for SSMarie is way off in my ever so humble opinion

  3. Mike you made a lot of sense with your argument. Mayor Provanzano is a Liberal and you must remember you cannot talk to a Liberal over 3 years old. If this City is going to have a CAO, he/she should have a term limit of 5 years.
Why must we have a CAO when we elected a Mayor to run this City. The CAO position should be put to the people and let them decide if we really need one. Then again that wont happened either because the politicians feel the people are smart enough to make that decision.
