Sault Delta Hotel Acquired By Marriott

A waterfront hotel is about to undergo an ownership change again. Marriott International will manage the Delta Hotel along with 38 other locations across Canada.

Marriott is acquiring the Delta Hotels and Resorts brand and management /franchise business from Delta Hotels Limited Partnership. It’s a subsidiary of British Columbia Investment Management Corporation for $168 million making Marriot the largest full service Hotel company in the country with over 27,000 rooms.

Recently, the Delta Waterfront Hotel underwent a $6 million reno after it acquired the hotel, then a Holiday Inn brand in 2010. The hotel was part of a waterfront redevelopment alongside the Station Mall in 1974.  Holiday Inn ran the hotel for 35 years.

Marriot International came to Sault Ste. Marie in 2010 with the construction of  the 83-unit Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites opened  on Great Northern Road.
